About the project:
Taking first place in the ‘Media, Events and Creative’ category is Mirragin for their awe-inspiring drone light show at the Elevate Sydney festival, designed to show that Sydney was back open for tourism again. The 500 Drone Light Show was a reusable and environmentally friendly alternative to fireworks which was able to tell a bespoke and immersive story to the audience. The event paved the way for the use of drones as alternatives to fireworks, and more broadly, set a safe operational precedent for the use of drone swarms in heavily restricted urban areas.

This was a spectacular display and really started the conversation about public interaction, public safety and the use of technology to tell stories. It’s a great case-study and benchmarking project for future potential delivery of DLS in Australia and the positive engagement with the Australian regulator should be commended. I think they should challenge the Guinness World Record for a drone swarm of 3,291 drones!
